Dates: August 2, 2018 – August 5, 2018
The Lagniappe Classic Dog Show, co-hosted by the Louisiana Kennel Club and the Metairie Kennel Club features over 1,100 dogs representing 192 breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club. They will compete daily for Best In Show and Reserve Best In Show trophies. Judging will begin each morning at 8:30 AM and is open to the public. Due to space limitations, only dogs registered for the show will be admitted inside the building.
In addition to the regular show, there will be a “Best Lagniappe Puppy” competition on Saturday and the National Owner-Handler Series (NOHS) show on Thursday and Sunday, as well as several specialty shows. There will also be vendors at the show selling treats and other goodies for your pets. In addition, Canine Good Citizen testing will be offered on both Saturday and Sunday in the lobby. Cost is $15 to have your dog certified, and your dog must be registered with AKC.
Additionally, there will be a Juniors Summer Clinic held on Wednesday, August 1st from 3 PM until 5 PM at the Pontchartrain Center. Representatives will be available to introduce kids to the dog show world. A local veterinarian will discuss emergency pet care and club members will teach dog show etiquette. The clinic is open to all present and future Junior Handlers. Cost is $15 to attend and early registration is encouraged.
In lieu of an admission charge for spectators, the Pontchartrain Center will be accepting pet food donations all four days during show hours in the lobby. Donations will be distributed to local area shelters.
